Apex is a popular action, thriller on Netflix, starring a couple of great actors, Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton. Charlize Theron plays a thrill-seeker who’s looking for adventure in the Australian Outback, while grieving and soul searching after having a bad accident. I won’t spoil that if you haven’t seen the movie, but the beginning of the film shows her core wound, and then she goes off to the Outback to refind herself. When she gets there, she runs into Taron Egerton, who seems to be another adventure seeker. They’re cut from the same cloth, until some crazy stuff happens and he’s revealed to be the villain.

The best thing about this movie is by far Taron Egerton’s character and his performance. He’s a phenomenal villain. I can’t really think of him being a villain before this movie, but he was excellent as a villain. He’s so meme-able and I can see why so many people are having fun with him online. He was very enjoyable. Right away, I knew this character is why this movie was made.

I think Apex is better than the critics are giving it credit for. It only has a 66% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 47% on the Popcorn Meter. It’s way better than that. It’s entertaining, and fast-paced. The pace is definitely one of the biggest pros about the movie.

The acting is pretty good. Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton are great. This is not one of Charlize Theron’s best action movies by any means, but she’s made some great ones. She’s amazing in Atomic Blonde. There’s a lot of cool action, even though it’s not the best movie. But I think Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the best action movies ever made. She’s incredible in it. I would love to see a sequel, not a prequel. The prequel was just okay. I wanted to see more of her as Furiosa. So, come on internet, let’s make that happen. Let’s get a sequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, but actually with Charlize Theron this time.

Another good thing about this movie is the simple concept. Charlize Theron is on an adventure in Australia and she’s hunted down by Taron Egerton. I don’t really think you need to know much more. The beginning of the film deals with quite a bit of her backstory and her core wound. It only takes about fifteen or twenty minutes to show that, but I think think it was unnecessary. They could have taken ten minutes of that and given it to Egerton. He’s so good in this movie. I wanted to see him turn bad much sooner than he did, especially since it’s a shorter film: a 95-minute movie. If this was two and a half hours, then okay. An an hour of Egerton going crazy is fine, but I think we only got around thirty minutes of that, and I would have liked to have definitely seen more. He seems to be what most people are responding to online. We love him as this character and I don’t think we’re going to see it ever again, which is a bummer.

Taron Egerton has made some really good movies as well. I think he’s a really great actor. I’d only seen him be a hero in Carry On, which was another really good action movie on Netflix with Jason Bateman. And, of course, in Rocketman, he plays Elton John exceptionally well. So, he’s got a good range. The Kingsman movies as well, but he’s mostly done action to this point, but he’d never played the villain as far as I know. He’s so good at it, I want to see more of that, for sure.

So, at the end of the day, is this movie worth your time? I would say yes, it is. It’s short, it’s fast, it’s to the point. It’s just an entertaining action film that’s not meant to really be much of anything else, and it does entertain. But if you’re not a fan of this kind of genre; the most dangerous game kind of action film, then it may not be your movie. But if you’re a fan of the actors and the genre, then I think it’s worth your time.
